Via: Ian Somerhalder FB....What is your answer to this question tweeted at us by a follower on Twitter. - What's the first thing you think when you see an abandoned or injured animals on the street?

My answer to this question:

I've done this in many ways since I was a child. I always will. It's what my mother and father always did and I felt inclined to do the same. When I was about 10 yrs old I saved an emaciated dog and her pups from our church's neighbor by first sneaking her food and then telling my mom who got the people to give her to us and to get the pups a home. Others saved over the years but another more recent, I spotted a cat by it glowing eyes as I drove home late one night on a back road in Upstate Ny. I could of just assumed it was any animal at night but I noticed it didn't dart away, as it couldn't, she was hit. I went to her and next thing I knew the homeowners came out to see what was going on and they knew who she belonged to. So not too long before the man across the street came and held her crying and took her home. He must of got her help as he intended. I believe he called someone, a 24 hr Idk...but it broke my heart and I was just glad I helped somehow even if it just meant she could be comforted by her human. The most recent and odd rescue was when I went for a walk into town in the dead of winter, I do that sometimes, well I saw a very tiny bird shivering and looking way too young and cold and not flying so I grabbed her up with my glove and cleared out the outer pocket of my purse and tucked her in it's roomy warmth with the flap over the pocket and I kept checking on her and even took her into a store with me. When I was nearly home, still trying to figure out how I was going to help this tiny bird, I noticed a sparrow fly past me so fast I had to check my little new friend only to find it was that very bird that had taken off, now warm and free! I am sharing all these long winded stories because we should do this. We should talk about it. It touches the soul and it reminds us how important every life is. I am richer for these experiences and hope to always find a way to help. There was a duck too we named her Founder..or found-her lol..she lived on a farm when we had her ready for the world. I was about 8 or 9 then.So many more but that's always been a big part of my life.
